Mike Cox to Receive Leadership Excellence Award at 2013 Summer Event
MORGAN HILL, CA – Mike Cox is a Morgan Hill treasure. While running a successful business, he devotes countless hours, talent and treasure to the causes he adopts that make Morgan Hill an even better place. Mike’s exemplary volunteer efforts, community spirit and philanthropy have earned him recognition as the 2013 recipient of the Leadership Excellence Award by Leadership Morgan Hill (LMH).
Mike will officially receive his medal at the July 27, 2013 tribute dinner to be held at Guglielmo Winery. More than 200 community leaders, supporters of LMH and friends of the honoree are expected to attend this community celebration to honor Mike and to benefit the local nonprofit LMH educational organization.
A 2005 Leadership Morgan Hill program graduate, Mike regards the Excellence Award as a very prestigious honor that has only been bestowed on the most deserving community leaders. He was quite surprised and overwhelmed when he learned he would be recognized this year, saying “it is truly a great honor and I am humbled to be in the company of community leaders that I admire so much.”
Mike and his wife Mary have a fantastic reputation as event hosts for the many functions that do many things, all centered around making Morgan Hill a better community. It could be a fund-raiser, a celebration, a political awareness event or the annual graduation of teens from the Youth Leadership Morgan Hill program that is totally sponsored by Mike.
These events are usually held in the Cox’s backyard and feature fabulous food that is supplied and prepared by Mike, Mary, son Steve and other friends. Perhaps their crowning achievement was last year’s Leadership Excellence Award event honoring Rosy Bergin. Food for over 250 people was supplied and prepared by the Cox’s and their supporters and universally drew rave reviews. Mike centers his community leadership around food, which he sees as a great connector and a great leveler, enabling better collaboration and accomplishment.
An uncle’s sage advice to “go ahead and take some, but always leave some” encapsulates Mike’s philosophy, and it is plain to everyone who knows him that he leaves a whole bunch more than he takes.
Adam Ferguson, president of the LMH Board of Directors says the Board is “excited with Mike’s selection and looks forward to celebrating his many community contributions. Mike’s philanthropy and community support exemplifies the core values of our organization, and as a program graduate he has a deep understanding of the LMH experience."
Guglielmo Winery provides a tranquil outdoor setting for the silent auction, gourmet dinner and the recognition of the always positive, fun-loving honoree. The brief award program will be followed by music and dancing. Though he says he won’t be dancing, Mike wants everyone to come and have fun doing whatever makes it a memorable event for them. In keeping with the outdoor setting, dress for the event is casual, upscale summer fun.
Chairing the Honorary Committee for the event is 2003 Excellence Award recipient and LMH Board member Roger Knopf while LMH Board member Ana Espinola chairs the Event Committee. Organizers urge those interested to mark the July 27 event date on their calendar now. Information on tickets will be posted on the website www.leadershipmorganhill.org in March 2013.
Awardees are selected by a blue-ribbon panel of community leaders including former Leadership Excellence Award recipients.
Funds raised will benefit the non-profit LMH educational organization, now in its 19th year dedicated to grass-roots building of community leadership. LMH provides insight, tools and training to enable and inspire leaders in all walks of life to give back to the community through service. LMH graduates are found in leadership positions throughout the community in government, education, business and nonprofit organizations.
