Cricket Rubino - Director

 

Cricket Rubino - President

Cricket Rubino held the position of Coordinator for Leadership Morgan Hill from 2000 until retirement in 2013. She was a graduate of the Leadership Class of 1999.

Being an active member of the community started with her position with Live Oak Emerald Regime Band and Color Guard where she served as Assistant Director to her husband Michael for 27 years. During this phase, she was also a judge for musical/marching/pageantry units in a variety of settings with several judging associations.

She opened Claremont Executive Services (her home-based business) in 1995. She provided professional resume writing and administrative outsourcing. Recently retired, she is now continuing her involvement with the community – unobstructed!

For her community and volunteer efforts, Cricket was cited with the Morgan Hill Chamber of Commerce 1997 Golden Mushroom Award, the YMCA’s 2003 Volunteer of the Year Award,  Silicon Valley Philanthropy Day Award 2005, Gavilan College Spirit Award 2011 and Morgan Hill Woman of the Year 2013. She is currently serving on the Board of Managers for the Mt. Madonna YMCA, and a founding member and Funding Chair of the Friends of the Morgan Hill Senior Center.

Cricket is very excited to continue her commitment to Leadership Morgan Hill via a position on the Board of Directors. She states, “This program promotes and sustains a healthy community by infusing it with passionate graduates ready to take their place to make a difference.”

Brenda Glimpse - Vice President

Brenda Glimpse graduated from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo with a BS in Industrial Psychology and launched herself into the field of Organizational Development and Business Administration.  Drawing on her studies in group dynamics, professional communication, behavior in organizations, compensation and human resources, Brenda inspires organizations to create a work environment that allow its employees to thrive. 

Following her last corporate position as the Human Resources Supervisor of Ace Hardware Corporation, where she supervised a department that supported a management team of 27 and a staff of 300, she began her career in Morgan Hill as an Organizational Development/Human Resources Consultant. 

It is here in Morgan Hill, where she lives with her husband Rich that she has taken on many roles in the community.  She currently serves on the Morgan Hill Chamber of Commerce Education Committee and helps to present the Rock the Mock event for our local high school students.  She is a graduate of the Leadership Morgan Hill Class of 2012.

 Katie Garcia  

Katie Garcia - Treasurer

Katie Garcia started with Heritage Bank of Commerce in 2013 as an Assistant Vice President/Relationship Manager in the Morgan Hill Office. Prior to Heritage Bank, Katie worked for South Valley National Bank (Pacific Capital Bancorp) in the Gilroy and Morgan Hill branches since 2000 in several roles between operations and commercial lending.  

Katie was born and raised in Gilroy, attending Gilroy High School and Gavilan College. In 2002 she relocated to Morgan Hill after the birth of her first child. She is blessed with and amazing husband who is a lifelong Morgan Hill resident and 2 children. She enjoys camping, hiking and running – especially in the south bay where some of the best trails are discovered.

Graduating with the Leadership Morgan Hill Class of 2014, Katie is honored to be a part of the Leadership Morgan Hill Board.

Julie Klem - Secretary

A lifelong resident of the South Bay, Julie has lived within the Morgan Hill area since she was eight years old. She grew up in the South Valley and attended Encinal Elementary School, Martin Murphy Middle School, and is an alum of Live Oak High School. A competitive swimmer in her youth, she swam for Los Paseos Aquatic Club and for Live Oak High School. She attended West Valley College and subsequently transferred to San Jose State University, where she graduated honors, receiving a B.S. Degree in Advertising, as well as a Minor in Business. She has worked extensively in public relations, event planning, and marketing, beginning her professional career at PRx, a public relations firm in San Jose, and working in the marketing departments at AMO, a medical device company, and Google Inc. For the past nine years she has worked in marketing at Apple Inc., where she serves as a marketing program manager for the company’s retail division. She and her husband married and moved to Morgan Hill in 2009 and both have been actively involved in the community ever since. In addition to serving on the Leadership Morgan Hill board, Julie is also a graduate of the 2014 Leadership Class and the 2012 Citizens’ Police Academy. She hopes to put her marketing and public relations skills to work on the Leadership board by raising awareness for the exceptional program it offers to our residents as well as helping to shape the community for years to come.

 Lisa Aragon

 

Lisa Aragon - Director

Lisa Aragon is a long time resident of Morgan Hill (34 years) who was born a 3rd generation Pasadenian (Pasadena, California) then raised since an infant in San Jose until graduating from Oak Grove High School, then moving to Morgan Hill with family while attending college. Mother of a fabulous son who was in the first graduating class at Ann Sobrato High School and she is very proud of his service in the US Navy. Lisa has a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Computer Cybernetic Systems Programming from SJSU. She has been employed at Anritsu Company (a fabulous high tech company in Morgan Hill) for nearly 25-years with the past 13-years as Executive Assistant to the President and is also the Corporate Travel Manager. After graduating from Leadership Morgan Hill Class of 2006, The BEST CLASS Ever, Lisa continues to be active in volunteering opportunities in the community:

  • City of Morgan Hill BTAC – served as Chair of the Bicycle Trails Advisory Commission (a sub-committee of Parks and Recreation Committee)
  • City of Morgan Hill PRC – served as Commissioner on the Parks and Recreation Commission
  • VTA Bicycle Pedestrian Advisory Committee (BPAC) – served as City of Morgan Hill (PRC) Representative.
  • Rotary Club of Morgan Hill – served as Club member and Public Relations Director (BoD)
  • City of Morgan Hill General Plan Advisory Committee (GPAC) – Served as active member for the 3+ year project, which culminated in the General Plan Update passing on the Nov. 2016 Ballot.
  • City of Morgan Hill Residential Development Control System (RDCS) Update Working Group – Alternate Member (participated in every meeting)
  • City of Morgan Hill Stakeholder Advisory Group – serving to provide updates to the Bikeways, Trails, Parks and Recreation Master Plan
  • Adopt-a-Planter - volunteer flower-planter with two downtown flower boxes since 2006.
  • Boy Scouts of America – volunteer for Eagle Scout Board of Reviews (Morgan Hill/South County BSA Troops)
  • Notary Public for Anritsu Company – 13 years
  • Bicycle Pedestrian Advocacy Group (BPAG) – Founder/Chair of this volunteer advocacy group working under the City of Morgan Hill Parks and Recreation Department.
  • Leadership Morgan Hill – Currently serving on the Board of Directors and Alumni committee as the committee Chair!

Outside of work and volunteering in the community, Lisa is passionate about spending time with her family and friends, her fly-fishing obsession, bicycling, golfing and gardening.

 Michael Brookman  

Michael Brookman - Director

Michael Brookman is a son of a pioneer family of Santa Clara County and is passionate about our heritage, history and future. He sees community involvement as a sustaining resource for the quality of life.

Michael graduated with the Leadership Morgan Hill Class of 1996. He’s retired after 30 years in law enforcement of which 26 were in Morgan Hill. He attended the University of California Santa Barbara and studied Industrial Education. He’s volunteered on many not for profit boards and groups in South Valley and has co-authored two books on local history.

Nick Firato - Director

Nick Firato is the head of Marketing and Sales for Firato Janitorial, a family owned and operated janitorial firm that specializes in commercial cleaning all over the greater Bay Area. Nick was born and raised in Morgan Hill and graduated from Live Oak High School in 2005. He then went on to receive a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Sonoma State University in 2009. Nick graduated Leadership Morgan Hill in 2011 and was part of the team that contributed to the success of the Bricks For Our Future Project. He Joined the Board of Leadership Morgan Hill in 2012 and currently holds the position of Secretary.

Bill Haskell - Director  

Bill Haskell -  Director

Bill is passionate about protecting the environment and open spaces and enjoys outdoor activities such as hiking and backpacking. He has a keen appreciation of art, music and literature; but no actual skills in these areas, with tastes running from the popular to the unconventional. Bill also enjoys seeing new places, meeting new people and dabbles in photography.

As a professional, Bill's career has spanned electronic and systems engineering, education, finance and project management. He has been living in and enjoying Morgan Hill with his loving wife, her two, now-grown daughters and their dog Sparky for 10+ years.

The Class of 2014 was the beginning of Bill's real involvement in the community. Now, in addition to serving on the Leadership Morgan Hill board of directors, he serves on the Parks and Recreation Commission for the City of Morgan Hill and volunteers with Wildlife Education and Rehabilitation Center (W.E.R.C.), also in Morgan Hill.

Sherry Hemingway - Director 

Sherry Hemingway has been involved in Leadership Morgan Hill since she moved here in 2000. She graduated in the Class of 2001, and has since served in various roles including president of Board of Directors. She was the recipient of the Leadership Morgan Hill Excellence Award at a tribute dinner in 2008. Other volunteer work includes Rotary Club of Morgan Hill, Community Solutions and various community committees.

Before retirement, Sherry had careers in journalism and public relations. She started her career as a feature writer for the Cleveland Plain Dealer and then various newspapers. She is currently a book columnist for gmh Today magazine. In public relations, she was vice president of a Seattle public relations agency (now owned by Hill & Knowlton), and later headed public relations for the international investment firm of Frank Russell Company (now Russell Investments). When the company was sold, her work in merger and acquisition communications earned the Silver Anvil Award, the top national honor of the Public Relations Society of America.

She holds bachelor’s degree in journalism from Kent State University, a master’s degree in public administration from Harvard University and a certificate degree in web content development from the University of Washington.

 Tim Hendrick - Director

Tim’s marketing and communications expertise as an Associate Professor at San Jose State University, as a respected industry executive, and as a past marketing/communications consultant, encompasses Advertising, Marketing/Product Strategy, Public Relations and Internet/New Media. His experience in the industry helped achieve marketing and sales success for a wide range of global and start-up companies in the consumer, B-B and B-C and Internet categories. Along with a full teaching load, he also oversees the business/advertising sales operations of Spartan Media and is also the Managing Director at DB&H, SJSU’s award winning on-campus communications agency. He has served in the Academic Senate and the President’s Strategic Planning Board. He has authored numerous academic articles, and managed and implemented corporate branding & positioning initiatives, marcom strategies, integrated media campaigns, promotions and co-marketing programs at the local, national and international levels. He also currently serves as Board Member of the American Advertising Federation, as Governor of District 14 of the AAF, sits on the National Education Executive Committee for Advertising, is a Board Member on numerous Regional and National Collegiate, Advertising Industry and Academic Boards, is President of The Morgan Hill Community Partnership Board and was past Chair of the Morgan Hill Chamber of Commerce. He has won many national and regional advertising awards for his creativity and strategic thinking.

Byron Kelly - Director 

Byron is an 8 year resident of Morgan Hill, having moved from San Jose with his wife, LaCrista, and 2 children.  Byron has a Master’s degree in Business Management from Purdue University and a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics from the University of California, Irvine.  He brings his 25 years of financial reporting and accounting experience to the board, with previous positions at Hewlett Packard and Merrill Gardens/Village Green Senior Living.  Outside of work, Byron is active in the local Rotary Club and in the Morgan Hill Chamber of Commerce as owner of his accounting firm, Kelley Bookkeeping and Accounting Consultants.  Byron was a member of the Leadership of Morgan Hill Class of 2015.

Roger Knopf - Director

Roger Knopf a life long resident of Santa Clara County, born and raised in Los Gatos, married Janie Wharton, a High School classmate in 1964 and moved to Morgan Hill the same year. Served in the U.S. Navy Reserve 1963-1969. Two children, David and Carrie, both living in Morgan Hill, five grand children all in local pubic schools. Farmed tree crops in the early years, started a General Building Construction company in 1970, building many projects locally over the next 35 years.

Active in local and regional community service:

MHUSD: served on its Personnel Commission for 18 years; chaired two successful Bond Election campaigns (the last, built Barrett Elementary and Sobrato H.S.)

Santa Clara County: served on Advisory Committee for Channelization of Llagas Creek (566 project); served on several ad hoc planning committees for the Planning Department; served on the General Plan Up-date committee 93-96.

City of Morgan Hill: served on and chaired the Architectural Review Board for six years; served on the ad hoc committee that developed and wrote the city's present Ethics Policy: serve on and chair the Corporation Yard Commission, 1990-present.

Community Service: served on Board of Directors M.H. Chamber of Commerce; served on the Centennial Committee; serve on Property management committee for M.H. Historical Society; 34 year member and Past President of Rotary Club of M.H.; founding director of M.H. Community Law Enforcement Foundation; founding director Community Foundation of Morgan Hill; Citizen of The Year 1989; received Leadership Morgan Hill's first Leadership Excellence Award in 2003, presently serve on the board of Leadership Morgan Hill, served as president for two years.

Corporate Board Service: founding director of South Valley National bank 1983-1996; director Pacific Capital Bancorp 1996-2012, serving on Audit Committee, Governance and Nominating Committee and Vice-Chairman of the Board.

Hospital Board service: South Valley Hospital, Health Dimensions/Good Samaritan Health System 1986-1998, San Jose Hospital/Regional Medical Center of San Jose, serving as Chairman of Board of Trustees 1998-present

 Susan Krajewski  

Susan Krajewski - Director

Susan Krajewski is a fifth generation Californian, born and raised in Sacramento CA.  She attended California State University, Sacramento and received a BA in Human Environmental Sciences and a minor in Psychology. Susan’s early career was with Gap, Inc. in San Francisco, CA. where she held many roles including store manager, distribution analyst, and merchandise planner.  Her last role was Manager of new store opening merchandise with the International division.

After moving to Morgan Hill in 2003 with her husband Kyle and two young sons, Susan has taken on various consulting roles including editor for Bay Area Mama handbook and Project work for 24/7 Workspace.  Susan is currently working with the South County Catholic High School committee as a project manager.

Susan is a graduate of Leadership Morgan Hill Class of 2014. She and her family enjoy everything the south county has to offer. She is involved in various ways with St. Catherine parish and school and is currently their PTG Vice president. She enjoys boating with her family on Lake Anderson and running all of the beautiful country roads with her amazing friends.

 Sandra McNeal - Leadership Morgan Hill  

Sandra McNeal - Director

Sandra McNeal is resident of Morgan Hill for 26 years, having moved from San Jose to enjoy reverse commute while working in Human Resources at IBM. She was a graduate of Leadership Morgan Hill Class of 2015.

After more than 25 years working in the corporate world, with her last position as Director Human Resources, Sandra formed her on company Ivey League Consulting. The ability to lead and develop people to new possibilities and perspectives is what continues to keep Sandra passionate about her career/life. As a certified executive coach and senior human resources professional, Sandra consults with executives and high-potential professionals at both small and large companies. Sandra is highly sought after as a coach and human resources expert who offers a diverse expertise in career planning, performance management, and leadership development. She excels at partnering with clients to get at the issues and work out plans to deliver the best solution.

Sandra recharges by traveling the world, attending sporting events, and listening to jazz.

In addition to her involvement with Leadership Morgan Hill, Sandra has generously given in the following capacities:

Community Service: Currently serves on the Morgan Hill Chamber of Commerce Education Committee and leading Rock the Mock events at three Morgan Hill High Schools. Served 2 years on the City of Morgan Hill Personnel Commission, with the second year as vice chairperson. The commission serves as the final appeal board for City of Morgan Hill employees.

California Diversity Council: Served as Project Director in publishing “The Most Influential Women in California Magazine” in 2009. A member from 2005-2013.

Black Recruiters Network: Served as the board of directors in providing leadership development and network events in Silicon Valley. Has partnered with BRN since it’s conception.

Emmanuel Baptist Church: Served as Human Resources Director in building an infrastructure that included employee handbook, policy and procedures, benefits, annual reviews, recruitment and personnel records.

 Rex Poria - Director  

Raksha (Rex) Poria - Director

Raksha is a 17 year resident of Morgan Hill having relocated from Salinas with her husband and two children. Both children went through the Morgan Hill schools system. The beautiful landscape captured her heart and the city’s close knit community gave her a platform to become active in volunteering.  Raksha has a law degree from the University of Bombay and now works for the local law firm of Rusconi Foster & Thomas as a Paralegal specializing in Estate Planning. Prior to this she worked as an Operational Lead contractor at NASA and as a Paralegal for the Santa Clara County previous to that. In her spare time, she enjoys traveling both domestically and international with over 35 international trips. She is also an avid gardener, loves playing scrabble, and going to the beach.

Raksha is a recent graduate of Leadership Morgan Hill Class of 2015 and looks forward to continuing her association with community through volunteer work.

Theresa Kiernan

Theresa Kiernan - Program Director 

Theresa Kiernan is a motivational speaker who enjoys empowering others to embark on their personal journey to find and express their voice in all areas of their life.  She likes having fun and creating a safe environment where people can let their guard down, shedding the “should, have to, and must,” to refocus their energy on their true-life passions.Theresa is a charismatic, skilled communicator, with a high level of energy and enthusiasm, and is experienced in the delivery of stand-up presentation material.  She speaks of relevant and interesting content through entertaining delivery and polished presentation skills.She is a Certified Trainer for Infinite Possibilities, a program that explores and defines the inspirational concept “Thoughts become Things,” and she is well versed in leadership, communication, and presentation skills with over 20 years of corporate training experience.Theresa is a very active member of her community with numerous leadership roles in various nonprofit organizations.  She enjoys her passion for community service as a long time member of the Rotary Club of Morgan Hill and serving as Chair of the Leadership Development Committee as well as currently active on the Board of the Mt. Madonna Y, member of the Community Solutions Gala Committee, Chair for the Visioning Committee for Rotary District 5170 to name a few.  She lives in Morgan Hill with her husband Bill and 2 grown children.
